Very Rare Vintage 1979 Tokai Japanese LS-120 Reborn Single Cutaway Aged Cherry

£3,195.00Price

You are looking at one of the absolute holy grails of vintage Japanese craftsmanship. This is an original, pre-lawsuit 1979 Tokai LS-120 "Les Paul Reborn" Standard. The "Reborn" branded LS-120 was only manufactured for a brief two-year window (1978–1979) before transitioning to "Reborn Old" and eventually "Love Rock." Finding an early-production LS-120 is exceptionally difficult, even on the Japanese market.

Premium Specs & Tonewoods True to late-'50s specifications, this guitar is built around an incredibly resonant, lightweight old-growth mahogany body paired with a carved two-piece maple top and book-matched 2 piece maple veneer. Like the legendary Greco EGF-1200 models of the era, Tokai utilized a beautifully figured, bookmatched flame maple veneer over the solid maple cap to achieve an authentic '59 look.

  • Finish: Original, thin Nitrocellulose Lacquer.
  • Neck Profile: Chunky, comfortable '59 rounded profile.
  • Fretboard: Premium bound rosewood with authentic fret-edge binding (nibs).
  • Pickups: Original USA-made DiMarzio PAF humbuckers with double-cream bobbins.
  • Weight: Very lightweight for a Japanese LS-120 at 4.1kg.

Sonic Character Acoustically, this guitar vibrates against your chest; you can instantly feel the resonance of the vintage wood. Plugged in, the original USA DiMarzio PAFs sound utterly superb:

  • Bridge Pickup: Delivers a clear treble growl, sweet vintage bite, and focused midrange aggression.
  • Neck Pickup: Warm, fat, woody, and perfectly defined

Condition & Authenticity Report This guitar is in clean vintage condition and is 100% functional. It shows honest, gorgeous cosmetic aging with tight, naturally yellowed binding and no separation from the body. Some buckle indents on the back. The metal hardware has developed a smooth dull grey all-over patina. No paint chips.

  • Structural: No breaks, no cracks, and absolutely no repairs.
  • Neck/Frets: Truss rod functions perfectly, neck is dead straight. The original frets show some wear but have plenty of life left.
  • Electronics/Hardware: 100% stock with no modifications save for vintage 1970's Schaller Tuners.
  • Cosmetics: Overall clean for a 1979 model. A few bumps and scuffs earned over the decades.
