Greco/Tokai Vintage Japanese FujiGen Built Jazz Bass 1970's to 1980's
Up for sale is an incredibly resonant and beautifully aged vintage Japanese "Lawsuit Era" Jazz Bass. It was recently imported from Japan with some older Fender FujiGen basses and it looks from around that period. This instrument is incredibly well built, likely originating from the FujiGen or Tokai factories as a high-end Greco, Tokai, or Fernandes replica. A previous owner added a vintage-spec Fender "spaghetti" decal on the headstock face, in line with the 1962 reissue styling. The bass features a naturally yellowed Vintage White finish (probably originally Olympic White) paired with a classic tortoiseshell pickguard, delivering cool pre-CBS aesthetic. It has plenty of genuine finish wear, complete with small paint nicks and scrapes across the body for some authentic vintage mojo. Functionally, this bass is in good shape as the truss rod has been fully checked and works flawlessly, keeping the neck dead straight. The frets have plenty of life left in them, ensuring clean playability up and down the rosewood fingerboard. Structurally, the bass shows all the hallmarks of a premium golden-era Japanese build, including metric potentiometers, clean factory internal routing, and period-correct Gotoh-style tuners with standard-rotation gearing and Phillips-head center screws. Played acoustically or plugged in, this bass sounds resonant and punchy, sitting perfectly in any mix. It has a fantastic, solid feel on the strap, weighing in at a very comfortable 4.35kg. This is an exceptional player's vintage instrument that easily rivals the build quality of its American counterparts from the same era, offering incredible tone and history without the custom shop price tag. No case but it will come packed in a solid secure internally padded bass shipping hard box. I’ll let the pics tell the rest of the story. An awesome old Japanese warrior.
