Up for grabs is a deeply researched, era-accurate 1989 Gibson Les Paul Custom, modified to replicate Kirk Hammett's iconic guitar from Metallica's "...And Justice for All" tour and the legendary Seattle '89 performances.While modern reissues and Hammett’s current touring guitars feature "blacked-out" hardware, historical equipment records and Ross Halfin’s photographs prove that this guitar originally rocked gold hardware during the late '80s peak of the Justice tour. This instrument has been painstakingly modified to capture that specific, golden-era Seattle '89 aesthetic while respecting and preserving the underlying vintage 1989 instrument. It is Yamano import. Born in the USA and shipped to Japan by representatives of Yamano. It contains all its original Yamano documentation. Why would anyone pay double this price for the current new Gibson tribute model when you have a rare chance at this period correct vintage 1989 Les Paul Custom with Hammett's exact modifications?


Historical Accuracy & Specifications:


  • Era-Correct Pickups (EMG 81 / EMG 81): While Kirk is famously linked to the 81/60 combo today, records from 1989 confirm he ran a dual-EMG 81 setup. This guitar features two vintage, black-back, old-type EMG 81s with a traditional soldered finish.


  • Period-Correct Hardware: Equipped with gold hardware and gold Schaller Kidney Button tuners, perfectly matching the guitar's configuration before it was later updated to black.


  • No Unnecessary Modifications: No extra holes were drilled into the wood to achieve this tribute. The base vintage 1989 Les Paul Custom was left as structurally intact as possible to preserve its integrity and value.


There is a some wear as you'd expect for an almost 4 decades old Custom. Plenty of scuffs, some dimples and some light buckle scuffs on the back. No paint chips. There is plenty of life left in the frets, the truss rod is fine and the neck is straight. There have been absolutely no breaks or repairs. The weight is 4.77kg. Complete with original Gibson hardcase and documentation.
