Gibson 1988 Les Paul Pre-Historic 1959 Flametop Reissue. Fully Original w/ OHSC

£5,220.00Price

Here we have a very guitar. It is a Gibson 1988 Pre-Historic 1959 Les Paul Standard reissue. The top on this thing is stunning! It is in exceptionally clean condition and has some of the best looking maple flame we have ever had on a Pre-Historic, some can be a bit meh. This one really is breath-taking. These guitars are known as Pre-Historics, as they pre-date the "Historic Reissues" that were produced by the Custom Shop starting in 1994. On top of that, it’s a true Yamano order which made it to Japan. Read up on these Yamano’s if you don’t already know… Yamano had a lot of sway in what guitars they got to pick due to the volume they imported from the USA to Japan from the 90’s to the mid 2000’s (a period which also coincided with some of Gibson’s finest work). It is said they had the pick of the bunch when it came to choosing the guitars they took back with them. This is one such guitar.  The Pre-historics have a reputation as amazing guitars despite not being 100% historically correct, or perhaps because of it? This rare and beautiful guitar was produced in small quantities and will therefore make sought after piece for many Gibson collectors. Its non-chambered body has deep defined carve and tigerish maple flames that are visible from any angle. It is resonant and open to play and importantly is 100% factory original with no mods, breaks or repairs. It comes with its original set of very rare 1988 Gibson transitional PAF pickups. During 1988, Gibson was in the middle of a massive pickup transition. If you bought a standard 1988 Les Paul Standard, it most likely came factory-loaded with the newly designed Bill Lawrence circuit-board pickups. However, for the higher-end Pre-Historic 1959 Reissues, Gibson deliberately reserved these traditional, braided-wire, stamped metal baseplate pickups to preserve the accurate look and vintage response of a true late-50s PAF

The neck is smooth and fast with a chunky ’59 profile carve and a long tennon. It has a lovely dark and dense rosewood fingerboard. Condition as stated above it is very, very clean for an original pre-historic. The weight is super light at 4.1kg. The binding is nice and tight and has naturally aged to a deep yellow.. No buckle rash at all on the back and no nasty big dings or paint chips. No history of breaks or repairs. There is a dimple on the top which is grain or rice sized and not through the paint. Other than that it's just very light wear accumulated over the decades. As stated above it is probably the cleanest Pre-Historic we have ever had a Gas Station Guitars. Neck is dead straight truss rod checked and functioning fine, plenty of life left in the frets which still have their nibs. Complete with original tan Gibson hardshell case in fine working condition and the original Gibson USA leaflet and Japanese Yamano booklet. This is a very cool old Pre-historic with all the gentle aging you could want but none of the bad or ugly stuff you usually get. It’s well along the road to being a real vintage looker. These late 80’s/early 90's pre-historics are sought after. One of the best examples of a ’59 Pre Historic burst we have had and a superb investment. Don’t miss it!
