Gibson Custom Shop Special Order '58 Les Paul Standard Reissue 1997 Japan

Up for grabs is this very early Yamano ordered Gibson Custom Shop 1958 (R8) Reissue from 1997. This R8 is factory finished in cherry red, likely a custom order for Yamano, and this was a very unusual finish on an R8 back in the 90's. It was selected for export to Japan by Yamano, where all the best looking tops went during this period, especially some of the early Custom Shop historics like this one. We get in quite a few R8's, most are Sunburst plain tops but this is a different beast altogether. No issues at all, no breaks or repairs. Beautiful carve to the top and the weight is very good at 4.2kg. Lovely thick ’58 neck carve.  It’s a superb playing Les Paul and has been played and not locked away, so has some light natural playwear, which is no bad thing at all. There is plenty of life in the frets, the truss rod has been checked and working fine and the neck is dead straight. The tuners have been replaced with Grovers and the truss rod cover has been replaced with a 'Custom' engraved one in a little nod to 'Lucy' by the previous owner. I'll let pictures do the rest of the talking. It comes complete with its original black 'Custom Art' historic hardshell case, which is in good condition with all latches and lock working fine. It also includes the Japanese Yamano booklet. Read up on the Yamanos if you are not aware on their history with Gibson… Yamano had a lot of say in what guitars their Japanese representatives were able to hand select and take back to Japan from the 90’s to the mid 2000’s (a period which also coincided with some of Gibson’s finest work).
