Fender Telecaster Keith Richards 1967 'Sonny' RI Sunburst CIJ 1999 w/ HSC

Here is a very cool late 1990’s Fender 'Sonny' Reissue Telecaster based on Keith Richards' awesome workhorse. Sonny doesn't get mentioned as much as Keith's 'Micawber’, perhaps because Fender USA never built a signature reissue of the guitar. However these are one of the best Telecasters Fender Japan ever issued in our opinion. There were a domestic Japanese release only and are quite hard to find, so when they appear on the market we grab them quickly. This old beauty was built for Fender at Dyna Gakki and is a CIJ O-Serial from the 1999-2002 period. The body is solid White Ash with a maple neck and fingerboard with vintage 7.25 radius & single-ply black pickguard. It has the correct ‘F’ stamped neckplate. It’s rare to find a three tone sunburst ('Sonny') finish over a Fender '52 RI (most are blond or natural ash). The neck is dead straight, truss rod fine and plenty of life left in the frets. Structurally and electrically sound. No issues at all. No breaks, repairs and is obviously factory routed for the humbucker.  It is nicely aged giving is some real mojo, Fender relic guitars to look just like this! The body has a few small scrapes & bumps (no big paint chips) all naturally earned and is well on the road to becoming a true vintage relic. These old 80's & 90's White Ash Sonnys are usually hefty old lumps when we find them but this is one of the lightest we have ever had weighing in at 3.5kg!  It’s a great playing Tele, sweet action & the pickups are both outstanding and work well together. Complete with Tele fitted hardcase and all Fender Japan docs including the booklet and original Fender Japan expired warranty card which has the guitars individual serial number printed on, great for providence as it increases in value. A very cool one-off 25+year old reissue of Keith Richards legendary 'Sonny'. The only reissue of this guitar Fender have ever made.
