Fender Japan 1997 Mustang California Blue Slab Body 1966 Reissue MIJ w/ Softcase

Here is a very cool '66 Reissue CIJ O-Serial Fender Mustang (built between 1997-2000). The main Fender Japan Mustang run reissues were MG65, MG69 and MG73. Very few ’66 Mustangs were ever built. The ones that were made were solely for the Japanese domestic market, so you won’t see too many outside Japan. Most of these '66 reissues were finished in Fender’s awesome California Blue too like this one, the only Fender Mustang to be factory finished in this colour. To be honest, aside from the colour there aren’t many differences between this and the MG65. It’s true to the vintage Fender ’65-66 spec, with the slab body, rosewood fingerboard, white button tuners and 3-ply pickguard. 
 
This one is a great example of how a Mustang should play, it even stays in tune! The rosewood fingerboard is nice and dark with a dead straight neck, truss rod fine and plenty of life left in the frets. There have been no breaks, repairs or routing. Structurally and electrically sound. Weight is nice and light at 3.2kg. Complete with period correct Fender Japan softcase and replacement black tipped threaded 5mm tremolo arm (just drops in and tightens as per usual). There are some sticker shadows and some rubbing of the finish in the back. There are some little bumps and scratches and a little ding between the pickups. All good honest wear, and Mustangs always look much better for it. A scarce model Mustang from Fender Japan. And CBL is one of the best finishes!
