Fender Japan Telecaster 1967 Keith Richards 'Sonny' RI FujiGen E-Serial 1984-87

Here is a very rare mid 1980’s Fender 'Sonny' Reissue Telecaster based on Keith Richards' awesome workhorse. Sonny doesn't get mentioned as much as Keith's 'Micawber (we also currently have a rare Fender Japan Micawber for sale), perhaps because Fender USA never built a signature reissue of the guitar. However these are some of the best Telecasters Fender Japan ever issued in our opinion. There were a domestic Japanese release and are rare (we have only found a handful over the years), so when they appear on the market we grab them quickly. It’s a factory spec E-Serial (1984-87) and like all of these was built for Fender at the legendary FujiGen plant. It has a great sounding factory installed Dragster humbucker in the neck and a USA Texas Special in the bridge. It has really nice warm sunburst with the dull glazed look of nitrocellulose over the ash body instead of the usual shiny poly finish, but we think it will be poly. The body is built from solid and weighty White Ash with a maple neck and fingerboard with vintage 7.25 radius & single-ply black pickguard. It is rare to find a three tone sunburst ('Sonny') finish over a Fender '52 RI (most are blond or natural ash). The huge sounding USA Texas Special in the bridge more than holds its own with the Dragster humbucker. The neck is dead straight, truss rod fine and plenty of life left in the frets. Structurally and electrically sound. No issues at all. No breaks, repairs and is obviously factory routed for the humbucker.  It is nicely aged giving is some real mojo. A nice dull glazed look all over, no paint chips etc, it’s well on the road to becoming a true vintage relic.  Please bear in mind, these old FujiGen mid 80's White Ash Sonnys & Micawbers were hefty old lumps & usually go well over 4kg, this is no exception, weighing in at 4.7kg.  It’s a great playing Tele, sweet action & the pickups are both outstanding and work well together. Complete with old Japanese gig bag. A very cool vintage reissue of Keith Richards legendary 'Sonny'. The only version of this guitar Fender have ever made.
