Epiphone Vintage 1982 Japanese Riviera Japan Matsumoko Semi-Hollow OASIS

£2,195.00Price

Up for sale here we have a beautiful example of a vintage 1982 Japanese Epiphone Riviera in stunning Cherry red finish. This was the guitar Noel Gallagher played in Oasis through ’94, all of ’95 and some of ’96. What happened to Noel’s guitar I do not know but it was also a Matsumoku built Red Riviera (his was an ‘83 hardtail). To me it’s his most iconic guitar whilst with Oasis. There are not many original red Japanese Matsumokus about and most Oasis fans had to make to with ‘90s built Korean Rivieras. Anyway, this was built at the Matsumoku factory in Japan in ‘82 with the tan label. It is stunning looking guitar and clean for its age. These old Matsumokos are awesome Rivieras with special attention to Kalamazoo specs of the 1960s. It’s one of the essential rock & roll hollowbodies. The build quality is exceptional. This is nice and light for a Matsumoko at 3.6kg. As mentioned above, the condition is very good, the cleanest we have had in fact. It has the correct Japanese Matsumoko tan label viewable from the f-hole. Being one of the early Japanese builds is still has the vintage correct Frequensator tailpiece before they moved to the standard stopbar in around mid 1982. This one would have been built just before the switch over. It is a real vintage looker with some lovely yellowing of the binding and the checking in as you usually see on vintage bound guitars. No bucklerash on the back. There have obviously been no breaks or repairs. Neck is dead straight truss rod checked and functioning fine, plenty of life left in the frets. It’s taken a little knock which has taken off some of the clearcoat on the upper body mid curve. The knobs have been replaced as has the bridge humbucker, which was changed to a later Epiphone (around 2000). The neck pickup is original and they work very well together offering an excellent tonal range between them. The neck is nice and chunky. If you are interested in finding one of the very best (and earliest) examples of a vintage Japanese Riviera still left out there, this one is your guitar. Complete with tan Epiphone Hardcase, in fine working order. It’s a really nice example of this rare guitar.
