Epiphone Vintage 1970's Japanese Riviera Japan Matsumoko 'OASIS GUITAR' MIJ

£1,995.00Price

Up for sale here we have a beautiful example of a vintage 1970's Japanese Epiphone Riviera in stunning Cherry red finish. This was the guitar Noel Gallagher played in Oasis through ’94, all of ’95 and some of ’96. What happened to Noel’s guitar I do not know but it was also a Matsumoku built Red Riviera (his was an ‘83 hardtail). To me it’s his most iconic guitar whilst with Oasis. There are not many original red Japanese Matsumokus about and most Oasis fans had to make to with ‘90s built Korean Rivieras. Anyway, this was built at the Matsumoku factory in Japan in the late 1970's and has the blue label. It is stunning looking guitar and clean for its age. These old Matsumokos are awesome Rivieras with special attention to Kalamazoo specs of the 1960s. It’s one of the essential rock & roll hollowbodies. The build quality is exceptional. It's a great weight for a Matsumoko at 3.8kg.  It has the correct Japanese Matsumoko blue label viewable from the f-hole with the serial corresponding to the headstock stamped serial. Being one of the early Japanese builds is still has the vintage correct Frequensator tailpiece from before they moved to the standard stop bar in around mid 1982.  It is a real vintage looker with some lovely yellowing of the body and neck binding. No bucklerash on the back.  However it does have a hole that was made sometime in the past and that has subsequently been re-filled. The repair is strong and smooth and will not need any additional work, it's just now a small cosmetic issue now and considering the rarity and value of this guitar may be worth having this area professionally refinished to match down the line; but we will leave that up to the buyer. The neck is dead straight truss rod checked and functioning fine, plenty of life left in the frets. As mentioned above, aside from the small repair, on the back the condition is very good, the cleanest we have had in fact. The neck is nice and chunky. If you are interested in finding one of the very best (and earliest) examples of a vintage Japanese Riviera still left out there, this one is your guitar. Complete with hardcase, in fine working order. It’s a really nice example of this rare guitar.
